It was not that long ago when “essay editing” meant manually retyping an entire page (or entire paper), but things have changed dramatically over the past 30 years and there are now numerous open source and commercial software applications available that can assist in the editing process. For example, students may not know about Microsoft’s new Researcher feature that was included in its Word application in 2016 that will make writing academic papers a little easier. Microsoft reports that this feature uses the Bing Knowledge Graph to search for relevant online content internet which is then plugged directly into your word processing document, along with appropriate academic citations for the sources. These applications, though, may have a steep learning curve and busy students may lack the time to invest in becoming expert with them.
